Literacy Volunteers of Bastrop News
November 2011 The City of Bastrop generously donates a portion of the revenues from Bastrop Power and Light to support a number of worthwhile non-profits who provide services to the citizens of Bastrop. The City has awarded funds to LVB to assist citizens beginning in the 90's, and we recently were awarded the grant for the year 2011/2012, which allows us to continue providing these services free of charge to the citizens of our community. Thanks for your continued support of our mission, Bastrop Power and Light!

June 2011 Another busy year at LVB! Over the last year (July 2010 to June 2011), LVB was able to assist 143 students in the areas of GED, ESL, Basic Reading and Citizenship! We had 25 students successfully complete their GED! Thanks to everyone who worked so hard!
May 2011 Dollar General has renewed our literacy grant for another year! Great news that will continue to benefit adult learners in Bastrop County!
March 2011 Exciting times at Literacy Volunteers of Bastrop. We received word that the Rotary Club of Bastrop County has awarded us a community service grant, and we are making a presentation to the club on March 22nd. The new sign was installed at the office at 1404 Pine Street, and looks great!

January 2011 Literacy Volunteers of Bastrop needs volunteers! Never tutored before? Don't worry, LVB will take care of training you to be able to assist students in a very short time. You don't need to speak another language. Just be able to read, write and speak Engish - and want to help others do the same. Please contact us today!
November 2010 The City of Bastrop has notified us that we will again be the recipient of a Community Service Grant for 2010/2011. We appreciate the continued support of the City!
September 2010 LVB hosted a FREE Dyslexia Awareness/Tutor Training Workshop on October 9, 2010 Participants learned about: background and basics of dyslexia,as well as effective strategies for all ages from pre-schoolers to adults.
August 2010 LVB has moved! We are very excited to be in our new location at 1404 Pine Street - just one block from the new Bastrop City Hall currently under construction. Come and visit us in our great new location!

June 2010 What a year we have had at LVB! Over the last twelve months (July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2010), LVB has served 117 adult students! We have had 14 students test successfully for their GED, and our tutors have volunteered over 1400 hours serving students! Thanks to everyone who made this year a success, and thanks to our students for all their hard work!
May 2010 LVB was awarded a grant from Dollar General Literacy Foundation! We are extremely excited to have successfully competed for this nationwide grant, and about the great things that will happen for adult learners in Bastrop County! The grant will be used to provide in-depth training for new volunteer tutors, and to purchase materials and equipment to support our growing program.
January 2010 Great news for LVB students and volunteers! We were notified this morning that we received funds from the Lola Wright Foundation to purchase a new computer for the office - which we desperately need!! Thanks to the Lola Wright Foundation for their generosity!
December 2009 LVB donated over 350 new and gently used children's books to Bastrop's Pink Santa! Pink Santa provides Christmas gifts to many children in the Bastrop Independent School District.

October 2009 The City of Bastrop has notified us that we will again be the recipient of a community service grant for 2009--2010! Thanks to the City of Bastrop for their continued support of LVB!
July 2009 LVB received a generous grant from the Rotary Club of Bastrop County which sponsored the development and hosting of this great website for one year. The grant will also fund the development of an updated LVB brochure, and other efforts to increase our community presence. Thanks to the Rotary Club of Bastrop County!!!
June 2009 LVB received a book grant from ProLiteracy America. The book grant provided us with over $1800 worth of incredible GED and pre-GED materials. Our students and volunteer tutors are so excited to put them to use!
